Veles-Night on the Bare Mountain LP
Official reissue by Dead Christ Commune on 180-gram black vinyl, housed in a 3mm glossy jacket with insert and two postcard flyers. This is the only edition that faithfully reproduces the original No Colours Records CD layout, right down to the center label design.
Anyone familiar with black metal knows that the early Polish scene developed its own identity, separate from the Scandinavian and Western European bands of the same era. Veles followed that path from the start. Their debut full-length, Night on the Bare Mountain, stands as a strong example of early Polish pagan black metal. The closest comparison is early Graveland, which makes sense given that Robert “Darken” Fudali—Graveland’s main figure—was the only other permanent member of Veles alongside leader Blasphemous. Darken handled keyboards and contributed the intros and outros heard across the band’s recordings. All the hallmarks of the Polish style are here: rough but effective drumming, strange jangling guitar tones, prominent keyboard lines, and harsh rasped vocals. The result is a raw, loose performance that still manages to create a cold and ancient atmosphere typical of the early Polish underground.
