Opresija-Vatre Opresije MC

Its sophomore demo, “Vatre Opresije”, crackles to life like embers blown to flame by a bitter wind. Here, the Croatian one‑man forge abandons the furtive rock’n’roll interludes of its predecessor, trading them for a sharpened punk edge that slices through the icy veil of raw black metal. The result is an audacious conflagration, less volatile in its detours, yet bristling with fresh, fierce energy. From the very first track, the guitars rasp and churn, each chord struck like a hammer on an anvil, forging shapes of fire and shadow, while the bass also very actively delivers a soothing aggression, that somehow deepens the ritualistic feel. Yet within this chaotic blaze, the punk roots stand more pronounced now, their defiant pulse guiding the tempest rather than lurking on the fringes. Vocally, Opresija has grown, harnessing a tone of solemn invocation, no longer mere guttural eruptions but incantations, sometimes edging toward a near‑clean delivery that feels like an oracle’s whisper. In these moments, a new mystical power awakens, at times echoing the frostbitten grandeur of Eisenwinter, even as the surrounding tempest remains wholly Opresija’s own. Beneath the mayhemic surface, occasional passages breathe like blackened air after a storm. These are not as harmonious detours as before, but purposeful interludes, shy crevices in a scorched earth that let the listener inhale the acrid tang of ashes before the next onslaught. Such contrasts, though subtler than in “So, I Take Thee from the Earth”, still illuminate this record with a despair intertwined with a fierce, unbroken will. “Vatre Opresije” shows a great maturation without surrendering primal roots. Its punk-infused rawness feels revitalized, its black metal heart still pulsing with cold fire. For those who sensed in Opresija’s debut the promise of something darker, more elemental, this second offering delivers in spades, an evocative journey through cinder and storm, where every roar carries the weight of unspoken rites.
