Versteck-Symbols of Seven Harmonies
Definitely following somewhat on similar lines as their debut, combining the primal and stomping Black/Punk elements of the legendary Bone Awl and Ødelegger, with some serpentine melodicism akin the the Finnish and other Nordic scenes put together by rough acidic production, albeit definitely clearer here, what sets Versteck most apart on this release would be the more epic, triumphant melodies that definitely seep through, with some teutonic inspiration to them, resembling acts like Bilskirnir or Absurd, or in some more saccharine passages even Eisenwinter or Vothana. A combination of elements which also reminds be of the most recent Blutschwur record, another 2023 highlight, but which also takes some more somber, nocturnal turns at times, passing from the sword-holding, honorous charge towards the enemy, to wooden depths, brimming with malignant eyes lurking, particulaly in tracks like "Witchcraft" and "Last Fortress", which resemble with acts as Fosso, Falsa Luz or even Black Kruud.
Absolutely killer album and another dagger to the heart from the Indonesian scene.
